Hashtag #PoundSign

Possibly the most Maine photo ever taken.

We have owned a home in Maine for three months and 20 days. In that time, we have had 10 groups of visitors spend time with us. We are thankful that people still like us, though we live in a faraway corner of the country.

But people seem to like it. Of those 10 groups of visitors, Belle liked it so much here that she decided to move from Boston to Maine. Another, Diesel, started applying to jobs here after his May visit. And this weekend, Hashtag, started openly figuring out what it would take for her to move here.

It's always nice when people like where you live.

They Instagrammed everything.
This is, of course, the best possible time of year to visit Maine. The weather certainly put on a show for Hashtag and #PoundSign, who were visiting from New York City (Brooklyn) and La Crosse, Wis., respectively. They were friends of The Wife's in college before I co-opted them via social media.

There are many different types of vacationers, we have learned. Hashtag and #PoundSign like touring. When we rode a ferry out to an island, then took bikes around, the girls were in picture-taking heaven. We took them out for good food (bacon fries!) and bad food (J's Oyster Bar!). And they explored an old military fort out by a lighthouse with TW while I languished at work.

It was perhaps the Maine-iest visit we've had. It was also one of the funniest. We started talking like teenage girls, except worse. We coined our own terminology.

Me: What are we doing later?
Visitor 1: Hashtag Nothing.
Visitor 2: Hashtag Playing cards?
Me: Hashtag, Sounds good.

Yes, for the weekend, I became a teenage girl.

We took pictures of everything. We stayed up until 1:45 a.m. (my cell phone ring tone is now Hashtag and #PoundSign doing overcooked Minnesota accents: "Jim? Hey Jim, are you going to answer your phone then?" Seriously, when people call me, there are two grown women, with five kids between them, having a conversation in my pocket. It's embarrassing and hilarious at the same time.

We love our visitors. I could tell you stories from every group we've had in town this year. They are our family members, friends, and random PA students who rent a room from us while they're in town.

Thanks for liking us and thanks for liking Maine as much as we do. And, for the record, it would make our lives a lot easier if you all considered moving here. We'd have less overnight guests that way and could take more vacations to the Caribbean. But not in summer.
