Ex-girlfriends swear by my cookies
This post is by popular demand. I was going to wait 'til a weekday next week and just do a bunch of links today, but here ya go.
I am Facebook friends with several ex-girlfriends. This (EDIT) does not baffle nor possibly annoys my wife. There's no particular reason, good or bad, that I can think of for this. It's not like we discuss old times.
However, a message came in 10 days ago. No subject. Sound like drama? Easy, drama zealots. It was simply a request for ... my cookie recipe. This recipe is a more-specific version of an alleged "Nieman-Marcus" cookie recipe that went around the Internet. In 1996. I am that old on the Internet.
Modifications have been made and specificity added. For the love of God, don't substitute Nestle semi-sweet chocolate morsels and then tell me the recipe isn't that good. Godiva. Yaheard. OK, here is what I sent the ex-girlfriend, verbatim:
Here are the two keys, as I see them, to making this recipe:
1. Either use Promise buttery spread OR leave the butter out for an hour to soften before mixing the ingredients.
2. Cook the cookies for 10 minutes. They will need a solid 20 minutes to cool down before you take them out of the pan, because they are very soft and gooey. If you want them more solid, for faster turnaround time or whatever, cook them up to 16 minutes.
3. I still love you. No, that's not really in there.
OK, the ingredients for the chocolate chip cookies:
1 cup of butter
1 cup regular sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups flour
2.5 cups oatmeal THAT HAS BEEN PUT IN A BLENDER and ground into a fine powder
2 extra large eggs
2 tablespoons vanilla
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 shredded/grated MILK chocolate bar (4 ounces worth)
1 bag of milk chocolate chips (not the semi-sweet Hershey's stuff, go for Godiva or whatever kind costs 50 cents more)
If you have a Cuisinart blender, throw it all together and mix it on low for 2 or 3 minutes, until it becomes a tough, thick batter. If you don't have a Cuisinart, blend everything but the chocolate chips, then add the chips at the end. It's a tough mix, because there's not much for liquids in it.
Then: Bake at 350 for 10 minutes.
VARIATION
I also made butterscotch cookies from essentially the same recipe. Just omit the grated chocolate bar and buy butterscotch chips. You can try other chips (peanut butter/M&M/whatever they have) but the best success is with chocolate and butterscotch.
Let me know if you try them!
