Resolving to Remain Resolved

Standard morning pose. Also, the chalk makes it look like I have hair. Sorta. |
People make New Year's resolutions. Or so I'm told. Gyms make a killing off the short-lived idea that "this will be the year that I get healthy," and so forth.

Another girl in our lives, much to Daisy Duke's chagrin. |
For instance, I wasn't happy with my 401(k) savings, so I gave the savings rate a significant boost. That was July 1.
Or I wasn't happy with what I was doing at work, so I did something about it. I wrote a story for our newspaper. That was in September and October.
And for the last six months of 2014, I did something more than a little obsessive. I got a phone with a pedometer in it and I averaged 15,000 steps a day. Every day. For six months. I'm currently ranked in the top 0.5 percent of Samsung Fit users worldwide. (Sidenote: People have obviously hacked this system. It tells me some chubby guy from China is averaging 46,000 steps a day. That's roughly 23 miles of walking and running. I'm skeptical. And looking to move into the top 0.4 percent.)
And still, I can't help but take a little bit of stock. It's a new year, sure, but mostly, the holidays are finally gone. People aren't staying in my house any more. Things can get back to normal.

My other, other bitch. |
Except they can't. There are bachelor and bachelorette parties for Nacho Man and Molly Lu coming up. And then a rehearsal dinner and a wedding and ... oh crap. There are still parties on the docket.
So much for that 10 pounds I'm always talking about losing.
And still, there's that idea floating around in my head. A resolution that I've yet to make a resolution about. Maybe I should take a month off from drinking and buckle down on eating out. You know. For a month.
Part of me feels like there's no such thing as the perfect time. And that's true. No matter when you choose to buckle down, there's always something going on.
The other part is more forgiving: "You eat lots of vegetables and average 15,000 freaking steps a day! Chill out and take a break after the wedding."
Therefore that resolution sits in wait, somewhere in the back of my mind. Maybe it evaporates. Maybe I win an IronMan Triathlon before the end of the year. We'll see.
In the meantime, I gotta go. I'm at 12,823 steps today and those 2,177 I need to pass that dude from Taiwan aren't going to take themselves.
Is there a new canine member of the family? Congratulations! Remind Daisy that royal status comes with hierarchy so her standing is secure. Kudos for your high stepping consistency, you've moved in to the ranks of international fitness superstars.
